biography
Brandon Yip has been performing professionally since 1985. His current work is described as Ethno-Classic Music; a fusion of ethnic and classical styles that explores music from around the world.
Mr. Yip's awards are numerous including finalist in the 1999 Carmel Music Society Music Competition, silver medalist in the 1993 and 1994 Portland International Guitar Competitions, semi-finalist in the 1992 GFA Competition, and prize-winner in the 1994 Young Artist Peninsula Music Festival. Mr. Yip's studies include masterclasses with the world's top artist including: Manuel Barruecco, Elliot Fisk, David Russell, David Starobin, Hubert Kappel, Nigel North, and Paul O'dette. Other studies include attending the class of Maestro Oscar Ghiglia at the Accademia Chigiana in Sienna, Italy. Mr. Yip studied formally with Richard Savino at CSU Sacramento where he completed his undergraduate degree. He also received a scholarship for his graduate studies at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where he studied with David Tanenbaum. His performances have included: soloist with the American River College Chamber Orchestra, Old First Concerts in San Francisco, California Center for the Arts in Escondido- which included a three day residency, the San Diego Museum of Art in Balboa Park and a performance of Jean Baptiste Lully's Te Deum, which featured choir and orchestra. His CDs, Global Impressions, Dedicatoria and Magnificat have drawn rave reviews from the industry's most respected artists. His CD's receive radio play on several stations across the country. Mr. Yip has also been feature several times on KOVR 13 news.
Presenters that have featured Mr. Yip include: Old First Concerts in San Francisco, California Center for the Arts in Escondido, Del Sol Guitar Festival at Indian Springs Vineyard, the Crocker Art Museum, CSU Sacramento's Festival of New American Music, the Folsom Guitar Festival, the San Francisco Guitar Society, the South Bay Guitar Society, the Orange County Guitar Circle, Bella Nota (a benefit concert series for the Nevada County School District), Community College of San Francisco, the San Diego Museum of Art, Pierson Productions, Sunday Afternoons at CBS and many more.
Mr. Yip has taught at the Marin Music Conservatory. Currently, Mr. Yip is an adjunct faculty member at California State University of Sacramento and American River College. Mr. Yip serves as director of the Guitar Conservatory at the Arts Academy as well as Artistic Director for the Sacramento Guitar Society. He is also on the California Arts Council Touring Roster.
